Signs Of An Allergy Emergency PDF Print E-mail
Some allergic reactions can be severe, even life-threatening.  If you are having symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, proceed IMMEDIATELY to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Signs of a severe allergic reaction may include:

  • hives (itchy or painful swellings), especially swelling in the throat
  • difficulty breathing (asthma, wheezing)
  • weakness, dizziness, fainting.

If you have medications prescribed for your emergency use, such as an Epi-Pen, Benadryl, or an asthma inhaler, you should take these as directed.  These medications should not be used as a substitute for going to the ER.  Their purpose, in most cases, is to buy you time to get to medical help.
